Painting and Mixed Media Summer Camp

with an emphasis on abstract art and creating from your heart and soul

This class will focus heavily on the process rather than the product.  I am confident students will leave with artwork they are proud of and excited about, but the process of creating is such an important area to focus on because this is where the bulk of the learning takes place.  We must experiment with materials in order to learn about all their uses, and how to combine materials together successfully in a mixed media application.  We must allow ourselves to mess up in art so that we may learn how to turn these "mistakes" into something beautiful, which enacts and develops valuable problem solving skills.  The end goals are to develop an appreciation for abstract art, to feel more freedom to make mistakes for the sake of creative growth, and to learn self acceptance.

-Experiment with a variety of painting and drawing mediums, and how to use them with interesting and unconventional techniques

-Tap into your intuition to create abstract, nonobjective art that you never knew existed within you

-Learn about famous abstract artists from the past and the present
